On the Road Again!

Hi Y’all!

Being a good reporter about autumn color, I insisted we head back to the mountains.

But two things I want to mention.  First, several of you have been frustrated, as have I, with not being able to comment on blogs when the comments do not pop up.  I sent feedback to blogger after suddenly not being able to comment at all on several blogs.  The previous day I’d used my Live Journal ID with no problem.  This is the feedback I received from blogger:

Your browser is no longer supported by Blogger. Some parts of Blogger will not work and you may experience problems.
If you are having problems, try
Google Chrome.

Second, I want to share some of the berries and flowers enjoyed by our feathered friends migrating here along the shore.

This first is not exactly a berry.  It is the seed that grows on the cypress trees in the wetlands.  Later the “balls” will darken and the tree will shed its needles.

Lady, an Old Lady

Hello there!   My name is Lady.

I’m a Labrador and Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix. I think I’m about 11 human years old.

I’m spayed and current on all my shots including Rabies.  Not only that I won’t mess my kennel.

Sadly, my owner passed away.  I ended up here in the Ionia, MI animal shelter.

I’m a really good girl.  I love to go for walks.

My wish?  Just a nice home to go to where I’ll get lots of loving and attention.

Please won’t you click on one of my pictures or my name and come see me.  I’m eager to meet you.

You can visit me Tue, Thu and Fri 11am-5pm, Wed. 11am-7pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm.

Correction…Error…Correction!

Hi Y’all,
You know how most publications HIDE the corrections they publish on an inside page in small print?  I decided that my correction…embarrassing as it is…would be published on a very public front page day.  So, here it is, Wordless Wednesday, and I’m definitely not being WORDLESS!
I got an award from two different blogs.  I was really busy and already had scheduled my posts for the week.  I copied the info and somehow lost one of the presenters.  When I went back, I had started to pick blogs who I wanted to pass the award.  Unfortunately, Scout and Joey (here) were supposed to be recipients of the award.  Instead I credited them with PRESENTING it!  (see last Tuesday’s post here)
My Editor, my Human, should be fired for failure to perform her job!  She let the publication go without catching the mistake.
Poor Scout and Joey over at Two Greyhound Town…I can’t imagine their confusion!  They were kind enough not to mention it to me.  So Scout and Joey, here is your award!  Well earned let me assure you!
PremioDestellosBrillantesEnElCieloAzulbrightflashesintheskyHere are the rules for passing along this award:

  • Winners must post the award with rules on their blog.
  • Winners must include a link to the person who gave them the award.
  • Winners need to nominate 6 blogs for the award.
  • Winners must leave a message on those 6 blogs to let them know they've won.
  • Winners must describe what they dream or wish for most in the world.
Now to answer y’alls BIG QUESTION!
Who gave you the Award Hawk!  Tubby (here) that’s who!  Tubby over at Urban Hounds was kind enough not to point out my error either!
Thank y’all for being so kind.  I’m so embarrassed for the error and I hope my Human is red faced!

Oooops! Comments Aren’t Working for Me!

Hi Y’all,

This note is to let y’all know that if anyone can leave a contact for the following blogs mentioned in my Award post, please do so.  Whenever I leave a comment on blogs today it has just vanished unless your comments pop up.  Can’t even use the old LiveJournal id with the link to here.

Davey’s Everyday Adventures

In Training to Help

Raising Patrick in College, the Story of a CCI Puppy

A couple of others had Facebook or email I could use.  Hope everyone gets their notification.

Award Tuesday Again!

Hi Y’all!

It’s happened again!  Isn’t it wonderful to be recognized?  I think so!  So let me thank Talking Dogs (here) for our Award.

“Bright Flashes in the Blue Sky Award."

PremioDestellosBrillantesEnElCieloAzulbrightflashesinthesky

Originally bestowed upon Talking Dogs (here) by a blogger in the Czech Republic, Harlequin (here).

The following are the rules for accepting this award:

  • Winners must post the award with rules on their blog.
  • Winners must include a link to the person who gave them the award.
  • Winners need to nominate 6 blogs for the award.
  • Winners must leave a message on those 6 blogs to let them know they've won.
  • Winners must describe what they dream or wish for most in the world.

For me the hardest part is picking only 6 blogs for this award.

Daveys Every Day Adventures is a puppy raiser for Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc.  This blog is always exciting as you get to watch the puppy grow and experience training most puppies couldn’t imagine.

Growing a Guide Dog just got a new puppy to raise.  You can follow from beginning to turn in for advanced training.  It is not only quite an adventure but it gives you a greater appreciation for the dogs and a giant appreciation for the people who selflessly raise these pups for a little more than a year.

Brando and Bogart are two of the cutest Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

In Training to Help is a blog about a service puppy in training.  They go through a similar routine that guide puppies do.  They get to experience lots of adventures.

Raising Patrick in CollegePatrick is a CCI puppy in training.  The tales of his days are related by Patrick himself.  Patrick does lots of sleeping during class.  Fortunately, these classes are for his raiser not him.

And everyone knows Rottrover, who is really more in need of lots of “paw power” right now, rather than this award.  Since I’d wanted to give them the award before being aware of the need, I hope that “Bright Flashes in the Blue Sky Award" will bring a small bit of joy.  I hope y’all will send them your “paw power” too.

Finally, I need to tell you my wish. I actually have lots of wishes…like for more treats, more rides, more travel…but my biggest wish is that people would love and care for their pets and be able to keep them through good times and bad.  Shelters and rescues would no longer be needed.

It's Time

Hi Y’all,

Before I start, let me apologise for the delayed post.  Blogger and my off line writer aren't co-operating.  Blogger is giving errors again and when I wrote and scheduled directly from blogger and it didn't post.  Second time that's happened.  Then when I tried to change and just hit publish I LOST the ENTIRE post!  So if this duplicates sometime in the future...

Now... it's time to answer some of your questions!

First, I’ll answer Rumpy (here). Sorry Rumpy, my fan mail comes to my email address browndogcbratlivedotcom.

Regarding my mail service, Bunny (here) asks: You look like a professional mail dog to me! Do they pay you for your services, or is it a volunteer position?

Actually, Bunny, all my mail services are paid. Failure to pay usually results my retrieving the Got it!mail. My favorite treat, and the only one I can have with my allergies, is the only acceptable payment.

Stella (here) over at Just Ramblin is lookin’ for something to carry. Perhaps a basket that is more comfortable than the fruit basket I carry could have its handle padded. My Human doesn’t Carryin' basket to root cellardo much sewing, so that, while it sounds good, really isn’t an option for me.

Let me know what you come up with Stella.

Kari in Vegas (here) wants to know if I can come teach her dogs to deliver the mail. I really, really would love to come teach them. Maybe if I remind my Papa that you’re in Vegas…

Sara (here) wants to know if I get to open any mail…unfortunately no. I’m only allowed to carry the mail.

Finally, I want to thank Ms. ~K over at Dog Daze (here) for telling us that this beautiful flowering marsh bush is called a Buttonbush.

Reminiscing - Special Moments From Last Week

Hi Y’all,

As my reward after a tough game of retrieving bumpers from their hiding places my last find is this raccoon tail.

It’s still HOT at the shore, so work is done in early morning.  Here the sun is just starting to spot the yard, flowers and me.

This is a marsh flower my Human thinks is beautiful.  Unfortunately she doesn’t know its name.

Here I am enjoying a scent while I wait for my Human to get the above picture.

Workin’

Hi Y’all,

You know one of the big chores the Humans have to do is check the mail that came.  It arrives in one of these boxes. Here I am takin’ the box back after deliverin’ the mail.

Below I’m takin’ the box back to be returned to the post office.

On Tour

Hi Y’all!

As y’all probably figured out yesterday, we went back to the

shore for a few days.  The first thing I did was take a tour with my Human Papa to check on everything.

But you know, it had been a long tough day.

Petfinder Week

Hi Y’all,Petfinder less adoptable

It’s me, Hawk.  I know it’s Thursday.  This week is Petfinders “Less Adoptable” week.

I hate to think that any dog is “less adoptable”.   However, perhaps it will encourage someone to step up and adopt one of these dogs…the old, special needs and, would you believe, black dogs.

Today I bring you an old, special needs fellow.  Please meet  Joshua!

Click his name or picture to access his Petfinder page.

Joshua has had that huge tumor removed and the others he have are not cancerous.  He’ll require medication to help him walk, but in return he has a ton of lovin’ to give!

Joshua was dropped at a shelter by his family because they were moving and couldn’t take him.  He was scheduled for euthanization because of his tumors and difficulty walking.  An anonymous family donated his surgery and he got a new lease on life.

Look at all the pluses you get with an old fellow…already neutered, up to date on routine shots, housetrained, and doesn’t chew or run wild through the house.

Y’all check him out!

Award Tuesday

Hi Y'all,

I am so excited to tell y’all that Joey and Scout over in Two Greyhound Town gave me a blogger award!
What’s so special about this award is that it originated with a blogger in the Czech Republic!
Here are the rules for passing along this award:

  • Winners must post the award with rules on their blog.
  • Winners must include a link to the person who gave them the award.
  • Winners need to nominate 6 blogs for the award.
  • Winners must leave a message on those 6 blogs to let them know they've won.
  • Winners must describe what they dream or wish for most in the world.

Award Premio-Destellos
The Thundering Herd:  a team of Siberian Huskies and their humans who try to keep them under control.
Arwen and her pack:  a self confessed dog crazy human learns about life from, who else, us, the pawed ones.
Beans4Biscuits:  everyone needs to get to know Sugar the Who, Butter the Bean and Hannibal.  When you visit click on “Take a look at us” and get to know the family, ah, pawed family.
Sophie: an amazing Doodle who has the most amazing photos on her blog.  Seems my timing is bad and they just  left “on the road”, but trust me, it is well worth adding Sophie to your “follow” list.
Married with Dogs: usually manages to put a smile on my face.   Oh sure, there are serious posts, but many look at the stressful parts of life with humor.
Never Say Never Greyhounds: if you enjoy agility and love Greyhounds this is great reading and fantastic photography.  Seeing the Greyhound pictures is worth following this blog.  Even if you don’t have a Greyhound, there is lots of helpful information in the entries about care for their pawed friends that would make it worth the read.

Finally, I need to tell you my wish. I actually have lots of wishes…like for more treats, more rides, more travel…but my biggest wish is that people would love and care for their pets and be able to keep them through good times and bad. Shelters and rescues would no longer be needed.

Thank you again Joey and Scout!  I’ll be by again to check on Joey.
Y’all come back now!

Mountain Monday

Hi Y’all,

Days are so very busy around here that I can never share all of a really great day with y’all in one post.

Y’all remember when we went to the orchard  last week?

Here are some of the sights we saw passing in and out of the clouds as we crossed the higher elevations.

Those are mountain ash. Below is a close-up of the berries.

Then we crossed the path of this fellow.

We closed the trip with some pretty early mountain foliage.
