It Came and It Went

Hi Y’all!

Thanks for stoppin’.

March came and now March is marching on until next year. On the 24th I had my 6th birthday.  Since I’m now of middle age, I thought I’d look back on some of the times I’ve had during those years.

Here I am looking over my new home.

Meetin’ the robot. I was just over a year old in these pictures.

Here I am learning to swim out and return with the bumper.  My Human started in the water with me on a check cord.

When I came to live with my Humans I thought the name of the game was “keep away”!

Next is a picture of me with my foot ball.

Everything I put in my mouth had to be given to a Human on command.

Below I’m on the boat heading out.

Boating with the Humans was always lots of fun…almost as much as car rides.

Then when summer got hot at the shore I got to go off to the cooler mountains.

Here I am helping the Humans as I learn my way around the mountains.

I got to go lots of places when we were in the mountains.

We were always off hiking someplace.  Soon certain places became my favorites.

Here I am loaded and ready to head off!

Papa getting’ me a drink of water from the dog fountain.

At the look out.

In the woods.

Enjoyin’ the view.

This was my first Christmas with the family.  We spent it in the mountains.

Here I am playin’ in the snow that first Christmas.

Here I am enjoying a hike the spring after my second birthday.

Training was an ongoing project.  It happened everyday as I earned more and more freedom.  Play is always a big part of my training.  Notice in this picture that I still have a check cord trailing behind me.

Even finding bumpers (notice one is still up on the statue) is fun!

Meetin’ an off leash stranger in a parking lot.

My third birthday.  I’m enjoyin’ a mornin’ at the shore.

Enjoyin’ practicing a water retrieve.

Stop by tomorrow for some more “highlights of my life”.

Fast Friday!

Hi Y’all!

The problems with our website and Windows Explorer have resulted in a major headache for my Human…both a real headache and just stress trying to figure out technical stuff she doesn’t understand any better than I do.  What’s worse, every time she thinks she has it fixed, though she’s never sure quite how, she tries to go into my blog using Explorer and DANG! it disappears again before her very eyes!

I’d like to express my thanks to Bert (here) for letting us know via our Facebook page that the problem was once more raising it’s annoying head.

Have to head on back to help out!

Oh, and if y’all have any ideas how to fix the conflict with Explorer, just email me  or stop by my Facebook page.

Y’all come back now!

Would You Like Sable?

Hi Y’all,

Today I’d like to introduce you to Sable!  Isn’t she a beauty?

Oh, hello there! Yes, it’s me, Sable

As you can see I’m a lover and a love.  Hawk tells me that lots of humans have the problem I have with feeling shy during interviews.  Do you?

This whole entire thing of being in a shelter is quite overwhelming!

I do have an absolutely awesome roommate and we love to romp and play together.

They tell me I have an especially handsome coat with dark espresso highlights.

Do stop and visit me.  I’m only 3 to 4 years old…and as you can see in the first picture I’m low key and cuddly.

If you’d like to meet me, please contact ask for Sable at

Darlington County Humane Society, Darlington, SC 843-398-4402or email  darlingtonhumane@aol.com

Terrific Tuesday

Hi Y’all!

Another beautiful day!

It was a bit windy today, but temperatures were great!  Just about 70 degrees Fahrenheit! (21C)

We had another great hike!

Papa didn’t go all the way with us, so my Human ran and jogged while I raced ahead to be sure nothing scary was lurking there.

On the way home, my Human was driving when we saw a a Jake (male turkey) was displaying for a hen. Then another young Jake  chased the hen (female turkey) across the road.    Unfortunately my Human did not have her good camera with her and the picture did not turn out.

Lookin’ for a Hidin’ Place

Hi Y’all!

My friend Sophie mentioned something about “hidin’ out”…I sometimes do that.  It’s so easy when you’re my color or Sophie’s.

Here I’m lookin’ around for a good spot to hide.

Then I realized I’d found a spot…and the Humans really couldn’t see me!

Even here, before I really found a good spot, you have to look really closely to see me.

Time to go now! I’m worn out!

Sunny Sunday Waiting for Monday

Hi Y’all!

Those of you who follow me on my Facebook page already know that I had the follow up appointment that the Humans had to postpone.  Everything was “A-okay!”!

It’s so beautiful here now!  We are having thunderstorms almost every day.  The mountains are starting to turn green!  This is a very exciting time of year!

Guess I better be off now!  Enjoy y’alls day of rest!

Am I Being Ignored?

Hi Y’all!

Over the winter the grasses dried and my Human was more interested in photographing their fancy designs than me!  I kept trying to insert myself in the photos, but alas, I was ignored!  Or was I?

Hey! Hey!  I’m havin’ a grand ole time!

Gotta go now!

Y’all come back now!

Fun Friday’s Weather Dog

Hi Y’all!

Time to get out and enjoy! Should cool down next week but temps in the eastern part of the U.S. will still be above normal.

Here I am checking the weather for y’all.

I am personally sacrificing laying around on a comfy bed and napping to see what’s coming!

I even dare the tough climbs.

At lower elevations leaves are out on the trees and many of the flowering trees are finished blooming and leafed out.  It’s only March and already azaleas and flowering trees are in full bloom at our elevation.

I predict a late frost and colder than normal April.

Y’all come back now!

Drake Had His Second Birthday in a Shelter!

Hi Y’all,

Drake, a retriever mix, was turned in by his owners when they moved.  That was  way back in November 2011.  Isn’t this fellow a beauty?

While Drake is good with most other dogs, he is still young and has that puppy playfulness.  Thus a home without cats or young children is needed.  In his exuberance he could knock over a young child.

Drake makes a moaning, groaning sound when playing with other dogs, but he is not growling or aggressive.

He is a young energetic dog who needs lots of regular exercise to release his pent up energy.  He also walks nicely on a leash and I’m sure would love to go hiking or just walking with you.

Drake LOVES life and needs someone who will offer him a responsible FOREVER home.

Click on any photo or his name to go to Drake’s Petfinder page and see his video.

Drake is neutered, house broken, current on his shots.  His coat is short and black.

Drake’s wish for a belated birthday present is for a forever home that will fulfill his need for love, affection and exercise.  He’d like a fenced yard to play in when not inside with his people or out exercising with them.  He wants plenty of food and fresh water and good health care, like regular heartworm and flea treatment as well as vet visits for health checks and shots.  Some toys and a comfy bed and to live in the house with his people, not stuck outside someplace.  Drake wants never to have to go to a shelter again, but to always be with the family who adopts and loves him.

Are you that family?
