Active Day

Hi Y’all!

P1440041

It’s the end of another busy week…do y’all believe it? ‘Cause I don’t!

P1430717

Besides another sunrise (thank Heaven) it’s time to join Slim Doggy, Emma from MyGBGV Life and To Dog With Love in Fit Dog Friday blog hop!  And the Pet Parade Blog Hop hosted by Rascal and Rocco and co-hosted by Jan's Funny Farm, Basil the Bionic Cat, Barking from the Bayou, and Love is being Owned by a Husky!

P1440229

Safety is important when you are hiking or exercising.  If you hike or walk mostly off leash, like I do, it’s important that your Human teaches you to “check back often”.

P1440277

How?  She keeps calling you back as soon as you get a little ahead, or just before you get out of sight.

P1440314

How does my Human keep me responding and checking back without being asked?

P1440321

TREATS!!!  The magic is TREATS!!!

P1440322

No matter how old you are (I’m now a senior), you should always get treats when you behave properly.

HEY!!! YOU GET PAID FOR YOUR WORK!!!! and you get your meals too!

  2. Our pups get treats when I get out of bed, when Arlynda gets out of bed, when one of us comes back into the house from going outside for some reason and when they come back into the house from doing their business. That makes us well-trained--right?

  3. I used to get to walk off leash before Tuiren came along, and I agrees TREATS are important. Tuiren acts like she can't hear Mommy even when Treats are involved so no more walking off leash for anybody. ~Fenris

  4. Ah yes, treats - the keys to the magic kingdom of dog obedience! My mom always forgets to bring them and then wonders why I don't come running back...duh!

  5. You are always so well behaved off leash, Hawk. You definitely deserve LOTS of yummy treats! Have a super weekend, pal.

  6. You are a very well behaved pup. Bailie and I don't have any interest in checking in, even for treats. If we are off leash, we are far too busy tracking critters and will return when we darn well feel like it, but it might be a few hours. Mom's last dog was always off leash and never strayed from Mom, but we are a different breed! You are lucky to have your freedom. Thanks for joining the hop.

  7. Often times Delilah won't leave my side when I have treats. Which makes it hard to recall her. LOL

  8. Kilo will do anything for treats. Looks like you had a very active day Hawk.

  9. Barley is a nervous nellie if she gets ahead of me (even when she's on her leash) and is constantly looking over her shoulder to make sure I'm still there! Or if we have a friend walking with us, she looks over both shoulders to make sure she hasn't lost anyone. She gets plenty of treats for checking in! I'm glad you're getting lots, too :)

  10. You are one hopping dog on Fridays! So glad you return each week to the Pet Parade. Great photos and have a fantastic weekend, no I can't believe it's the end of another week already! ~Rascal and Rocco

  11. Mr. N is pretty good about checking in periodically but I reinforce that with treats as well!

  12. What a wonderfully responsive dog you are Hawk. Ava does good off leash, but Veruca and Steeler still like to wander a little more then the humans are comfortable with. Wonderful foliage pictures.

  13. What good radius training Hawk. Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley respond to a "too far" cue which means they have gone as far as allowed (Huxley usually marks it) and a "stay close" which means they have to make the off leash radius smaller. Of course, as city dogs, they are very, very rarely off leash like lucky, lucky you!

  14. I hope the brown dawgs don't read this. They just get "good dog" when they recall...lol.

  15. That is some great advice Hawk, and we totally agree you should get paid for your work!
