Remember the old ones

Sam: Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Dog; Monticello, GA

Remember Sam whose family got rid of him because he was old and they didn’t want to be bothered.

Then there was Georgie  whose rescuer is about to lose her home, so she needs a special place.

Georgie: Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Dog; Cincinnati, OH

Then there is Paloma, a younger Chessie who is blind

My Humans say they’ve had a blind dog and it really doesn’t slow them down a bit.  Remember, we depend mostly on our NOSE, not our eyes.  Click on the dogs names to access more information about them.

If you can help or adopt one of these dogs you’d be an answer to their prayers.

While we can’t take in fosters like my Blogging friend Mogley      we try to help in several other ways, including promoting some needy dogs on our Blog.  If you want to help, but can’t foster or adopt a dog in need, there are shelter volunteers needed.  A “no kill” shelter in SC even runs a thrift shop which is staffed mainly by volunteers.  People are also needed to transport dogs.  Or, for those who can in these hard times, you can sponsor a special needs dog or just give a donation.  Often shelters and rescues set up a fund to finance medical needs of specific needs.

Something else that is always appreciated but no one speaks about, is donating dog beds, toys, bowels and left over dog food, preferably unopened.  We have done this in the past when we have had a pet go “over the rainbow”.  Contact your local rescue groups.  I found that shelters are more likely to take unopened food but not toys or dog beds.  I assume it is a hygiene problem.  Rescue groups like PAWS or breed rescues are more likely to take anything you can offer if it is clean and in good condition.  Check with local rescues and shelters to see what they can use.

Finally let me share to you a network for finding lost furfriends and family – Oliver Alert.  If you ever have lost or lose a dog…everyone needs a network and a place to turn.  Please share this YouTube Video.

  1. Thanks for all you do to help homeless best friends. You are right, there are so many tasks that volunteers can do to help.

We think each one of the rescues you mentioned today deserve a detailed write up so that people can see how wonderful they are.

Keep up the good work. And thanks for the mention of our blog.

  5. We've done several posts on shelter wish lists. One of our favorites is laundry detergent. Remember shelters do lots and lots of laundry. keeping all those blankets, towels and toys clean.
