Lots of Bytes Today

Hi Y’all!

P1350869

Today I’m joining  Barks and Bytes hosted by 2 browndawgs and Heart Like a Dog

I’m also linkin’ up with Ruskus the Eskie in Thoughtless Thursday.

First I’d like to share some “bytes”.  My Human was reading something  that frightened her (here).  This morning she took a break from work and went to BlogPaws and blundered into a discussion on content thieves (here)…

Many of us use parts of a post or a photo and credit the source and link back.  My Human did it yesterday on Tuesday’s Tales using photos from Petfinder.  I strongly recommend you go now and start with “The $8000 Mistake that All Bloggers Should Beware” and “Blogger Beware…” or this site (here).

After reading this article on what’s legal, do a search of your own.

P1350878

Now that I’ve shared that important information, let me get to the barks.

On last Thursday’s Barks and Bytes

“Hey Hawk, Do you get to play with those turtles?”

P1350540

I’m afraid I’m not allowed to play with them because they are snapping turtles.  My Human says they could hurt me.

“Wait a minute . . . did we see right - gators? YIKES! We love to swim so we are very glad there are no gators around here! We love you pics, we thought we were right "there"!
Your Pals,

Yes, we have gators.

About last Friday’s post on those Lazy Hazy Days

Kim Thomas said...

“Is it cooler in the mountains? Sure looks nice, all that green. Then again, back home with all the colors and summer warmth sure are awesome, too!”

P1350881

At our elevation the temperature averages 10 to 15 degrees less than at the shore.

“Allergies are no fun at all. I hope the change of scenery helps. What is your favorite activity to do in this weather?”

P1350710

Hikin’ in the woods early in the day or retrievin’ a bumper on a cloudy or chilly day.

Are you still in the nice cool mountains, Hawk? Have a great weekend!

So far the Humans are too busy to return home to the shore.  They’re also hoping, if they wait long enough, the cottonwoods will be finished blooming and shedding, since that is one of my allergies.

Then about Monday Mischief

“Do you have a lot of ticks this year Hawk? I'm just curious. What are you doing to help keep yourself cool.”

P1350715

My Humans have each had a tick on them.  So far I’ve been tick free, but I’m also on flea tick preventative.

About yesterday’s post

SlimDoggy said...

“Are you playing hide & seek?”

P1350712

We don’t play too much hide and seek here in the mountains.  There aren’t many places to hide in the yard, almost none.  In the woods I have to keep the Humans in sight so they don’t get lost.  Winking smile

Y’all hurry back now!

  3. Yeah there are all kinds of rules about what pictures are free for use and what ones are not. Mom has had several photographs taken over the years and it is frustrating. There are sites where you can get free to use legal pics, but people want what they want.

Beautiful pics. Mom is having nightmares about the gators. She's had nightmares since she was a child and her brothers told her there were alligators in the brook near their house. She was too little to realize they'd have frozen in the New England cold. She just wake up with nightmares they were in the house coming to get her. So we aren't likely to move to a climate where we will see them any time soon.

  4. EEK! Content thieves!
I have done my share of posting something and linking directly to the site it came from, but I do not claim the content as my own. Also when I find an image on google I want to use, I always put the image source underneath the photo. That is scary stuff. Thanks for sharing the article and the blog paws link as well!

  5. Hey Hawk. We were following that BlogPaws Content Thieves thread as well. It's crazy how some bloggers get their stuffs stolen. Great post again today, buddy. You got some great shots of the gators...we saw a TON of them this past weekend when we were camping. A couple of the bull gators even "barked" at us from their hiding spots while we were canoeing. Creepy!

  6. Great photos!

My fear on copyright usually comes from the other side - as the content creator. Everything we write and all of our own photos are automatically our intellectual property. If someone wants to use it, I'm pretty happy to allow it when asked and provided credit is given back to me. There have been times that permission was not asked, but credit still given, which I guess is okay.
BUT, what it its stolen? Plagarized? Or someone credits your work but changes it before publishing it?
Sure, those articles invoke a lot of fear about copyright, but when you're just one small person, you have very little recourse to enforce your IP rights - especially across international borders. The stories of lawsuits and settlements are real, but they're when the parties are easily located and in the same jurisdiction - and only represent a fraction of the copyright infringement that's out there on the internet.

  8. Thanks for answering my question Hawk. I have found one tick on Delilah and the other day I had one crawling on me. I sent it swimming in the alcohol jar. ;-)

I'm thinking the mountains are looking pretty good for temperature wise, so tell me, how is the humidity?

And thanks for joining the blog hop!!

I haven't been over to Blogpaws to check out that discussion, but have you heard of Creative Commons? It is a place you can find photos to use on your blog with clearly defined guidelines about how you can use them. I have a disclaimer on my blog about them.

  9. Snapping turtles are EVIL. I have to go read the content stuff now. I only use my own photos on purpose.

  11. Thanks for sharing the info about content theft. I was diligent about putting watermarks on my photos for awhile but got lazy about it. I should probably start doing that again.

  15. Thanks so much for joining the hop and for sharing the information on copyright. I try not to use pictures that are not my own. Wordpress used to offer a service that would pull up photos from the web for use in posts, but they discontinued it. I always wondered about them.

I am obviously way behind and look forward to catching up after this weekend's tests. :)
