So let me dive right in and share!

No rules, just sharing!

2browndawgs (now 3)  a special blog that talks about us brown dogs and explains what we were bred to do in terms everyone can understand.

Heart Like a Dog another special blog that makes my Human smile (and laugh).

Molly the Wally who’s always givin’ back!  Thanks Molly.

and my final nominee is Matilda’s Journey a special blog that is still in place to celebrate the life of this wonderful therapy dog and to help rescue dogs find forever homes.

P1330787

I could keep on because all the blogs I follow are deservin’ of these Awards, but these four represent what I’d love for my blog to embody.

My fellow Chessies at Sand Springs presented me with the Sunshine Award on the first day of spring!

First, I want to give them a special thank you!

Then ten things about myself…

1. I have allergies…I’ve been tested and get prescription allergy medicine (shots) from a supplier of human injectable meds.

2. I love to swim, but can’t when the alligators are active.

3. My Human Papa thinks I’ll have to have the growth nipped off my lower lid.

4. Whenever possible I get at least 4 outings a day with my Human.

5. I have to have a shampoo with a special allergy shampoo that my Human gets from the vet.

6. I have 3 vets and a dentist.

7. I get along with all dogs.  If a dog isn’t friendly I ignore him.

8. I get to spend most of the hot months in the mountains.

9. I don’t like snow.  I won’t stay outside in it.

10. I have lots of beds!

Grits seem to be a love hate subject.

Good night Irene, Hawk! You've covered a lot today! I love the geese. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE grits! Had some with eggs just yesterday. And plenty of salt. Why do grits seem to need so much salt?

Grits can be as salty, or not, as you like.  Usually it is what you add to your grits that determines the saltiness.

Grits can taste like whatever you like. Sometimes we have cheese grits, and the cheese taste dominates, so you pick a cheese you like to melt into the grits.  Sometimes my Human Papa makes something he calls “red eye gravy” that makes grits more of a supper than breakfast.  You can just salt and pepper them, add eggs and bacon or any single or combination of things you want.

I had an interesting comment about the Dokken…

Janet Keefe said...

Great post, Hawk, I think you answered all of our questions! Now, I had never heard of a Dokken or who it was named after, except there used to be a rock band called Dokken. I wonder if that was where their name came from too? I might have to look that up! :)

Now that’s one I can’t answer!  ???

I got this comment, question about the squirrel…

LetterstoAndrew said...

What a great recap Hawk and thanks for clearing up what the squirrel was eating. So the hawks will come down and gobble up squirrels?
Thanks for joining the blog hop! Happy Thursday!!

P1320639

Hawks fly over and scream to scare anything from field mice to rabbits and squirrels into running for cover.  Birds freeze their position and most animals do also.  If a hawk spots any movement he’ll dive on the spot and snatch the unlucky critter.  Chicken hawks are smaller hawks and are known to prey on birds.

Friday’s post “My World” brought these comments…

Did you have fun saying hi to all the other animals?

P1330669

I think everyone knows how the vet appointment went.  My eye is still bothering me, but my Human has doubled down on my allergy pills and is giving me extra eye ointment at night.  The mean scale we don’t discuss.  I just keep dieting.

Um Hawk? Did a wicked witch come and turn you into a donkey? Cuz you're looking mighty strange today. I mean the fur is similar, but my what a big snout you have!

Is that a burro? Really cool picture. Bark More, Growl Less Barking from the Bayou!

The only groomin’ I get is a brushin’ and occasional bathing.  I don’t think my nose is as big as theirs either.

These four legged critters are donkeys or burros, since the two terms are interchangeable.  The male donkey is a jack and the female a jenny.  The baby donkey is a foal.

Love Is Being Owned by a Husky thrilled me with a birthday picture…which I shared on Wordless Wednesday.

Don’t I look so neat in a hat!?  (and I didn’t even have to wear it for real)

Sorry, no cake…my Human says it’s not on my diet.  I did have a really fun day!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Aisen Still Has No Home to Call Her Own.

Hello, my name is Aisen and I am a Chessie mix.

I’ve been on my own for a long time.  Then I had a family of pups and had to raise them.  I’d never had a family of humans to care for me.

That’s when my luck changed, though I wasn’t so sure about that at the time.  I was rescued and put in a foster home.  There I was fed and cared for so my pups would be healthy.

Now all the pups are adopted.  It’s my turn to get a forever home.  My foster home is great.  They are experienced and are teaching my how to be a good companion.  However, I still don’t fully trust people.

I am searching for a special person or family who is experienced with dogs like me who have never had a home or family before…at least none that I can remember.  I get along with other dogs but I don’t know about cats.  I’d want mature older children, if there are children…who wouldn’t tease me…who would be kind, gentle and understanding and maybe teach me to play and do things.

Obedience school would give us a chance to bond and help me to learn new things. Clicker training I hear has helped other dogs like me.

Do you have the love, time, patience and understanding to be my special forever person or family?  I don’t need any more bad experiences in my life…Please are you out there, special person?

If you are that special person I am at Homeward Bound, London, KY   The telephone is: 859-490-0486  or email me at:  homewardbound1818@yahoo.com

Click here or or Aisen’s name or picture to access her Petfinder page.

The Truth Will Out…

Hi Y’all!

P1330702

By now y’all know that Thursday a week past I had to go to the big vet.  By the “big vet” I mean I didn’t go to one of the local vets my Humans take me to for minor stuff.

20140313_110255

Before they put me in this room with my Humans, the vet tech put me on the scale…the moment of truth had arrived…y’all know I’ve been on diet and increased exercise…

“Papa, do you think I could get out that window before the vet gets in here?”

20140313_110344

It seems Dr. E moved away after 15 years and I was going to meet the vet who replaced him, Dr. G.

P1320779

Seems my Humans and the vet were more concerned with my eye and ear than the scale.  Fortunately it was determined that it was allergy.

P1330731

I have to get eye drops 3 times a day and ointment at bedtime plus ear drops once a day.  I also get my allergy pills and my regular allergy shots.

P1320569

The spot on my right eye has grown larger this past year, but it is on the lower lid.  If drops and ointment work and I escape surgery, I’m a happy camper.

 P1320810

So I escaped without any comment about the mean scale.

My Human unfortunately did not forget, so, the diet continues!  GGGRRRRR…

To make matters worse, I’m 8 years old today…doesn’t that mean I’m an official senior?

P1320767

I sure hope my Humans don’t go off lookin’ for a senior diet dog food!!!  What do y’all think?  You think they will?

P1330592

Y’all come back now!
