Snug as a Bug in a Rug

Hi Y’all,

The weather is has swept across the country.  I’ve mostly huddled inside.  The winds have been merciless.

The snow was blowing most of the day.  It stayed too warm for the snow to lay at our elevation.  But here are some pictures of the higher elevations as the late afternoon started to clear.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there used to be a road that went up to a town.  It was nestled  in the hollar where all the snow is in the picture below.

The leaves, or what’s left of them, are desperately trying to hang on to the branches.

Below you can see how the sun and snow do battle.

I Got Your Purse, Momma! Lets Get Out of Here!

Hi Y’all!

Let me pick up my story where I left off yesterday.  The entire family was in the car and we were off!  But where?

Let me see…this way goes back to the shore…but we never travel there in this car…that doesn’t bode well!  Oh NO!!! We’re pulling into the VET!!!

Well, I’ll just go in and sit and maybe my Human is just getting me some more food.  Yes, surely that’s it.  Hey, there goes one of those fuzzy cats.

“Why hello Mr. Hawk, how are you?”  While I’m watchin’ the cat the vet sneaks up on me!  She does give nice caresses.  So my Human and I get up and follow her into a room…BIG MISTAKE!!!  WHERE’S THE DANG CAT WHEN YOU NEED HIM?

She shut both doors!  Hey, Momma, she shut both doors!  I wheeled around, grabbed my Human’s purse and tried to escape.  I only succeeded in tangling my Human in my leash!  Hey HUMAN!!! HEY MOMMA!!! OPEN THE DOOR!!!  LET’S GET OUTA HERE!!!

Ooooohhh, those caresses do feel good!  Oh, she noticed my poor hairless feet and told my Human to keep using the cortisone spray.

What are you doing Doc?  What’s that nasty lookin’ thing?  HELP!  She’s got my ear!!! Do something Momma!!! Now the other ear!!!

What are you doing sneakin’ here?  What’s that funny apron you’re wearing?  I know you, but you smell funny in that apron.  Why are you holding me?  THIS ISN’T FAIR!  I’ve got an assistant holding me and DOC’S messin’ with my butt!  Momma’s just standin’ there holdin’ my leash.  She’s not doing anything to save me!

Finally, I managed to drag my Human outside.  Let me get away from those dumb cats who evidently think it’s okay to LIVE with those ear picken, butt snoopin’ crazy people!

And off we went! Yes!  I got my hike in the woods!  Maybe the vet wasn’t too big a price to pay. Y’all come back now!

Where Are We Going? Where? Where?

Hi Y’all!

Let me tell you, you can never trust a Human!  I got up yesterday morning, Thursday, all excited.  I envisioned going for a hike.  A wintery mix was scheduled, so I wanted to get out and ZOOM…

We all piled into the car!  YES!!!  And off we went!

The first thing that went wrong: they turned the wrong direction!  I started yappin’!  Got a finger in my face and told to “’SHHH!”.  So I sat there whimperin’ like a puppy.

Okay, things are lookin’ okay!  The parks right up ahead!  Yes!

WAIT!!! WAIT!!!

You passed the park!!!

You passed the park!!!  Where are y’all going?

Where are you going?

Y’all come back now and find out where I went!

Patty

Howdy Folks!

My name is Patty!  Look into my eyes and I am yours forever…I hope.

They think cause I have some wavy hair but it’s mixed with some silver that I part Chesapeake Bay Retriever and part Weimaraner.  They found me as a stray so they don’t know.  I sure didn’t ask my parents what breed they were…didn’t occur to me at the time.  I was more interested in playing and my next meal.

I’m not all that old.  Think I’m about 2 human years.  I’ll do anything to please you, especially if you have FOOD!

I’m still young and active and love to romp and play.  If I could have my wish the perfect home would have lots of energetic active people and maybe another rough and tumble dog to play with when you’re busy with people stuff.

They tell me that you need to call me if you would like to meet me.  I love people and would love to meet YOU!Please click on my name or picture to go to my Petfinder page. My contact information is:  PattyParis Animal Welfare Society, Paris, KY • 859-988-9800 • PAWSinKY@aol.com

The Storm

Hi Y’all,

The above picture was taken after the storm and the big frost.  Below is the storm.

The white stuff is ice and snow.

Here’s a picture of snow and rain moving toward us.

And a different view of a virtual whiteout moving our way.

Then the morning sun broke through.

And I began to have hope that ol’ man Winter hadn’t taken ahold of my world.

Even my Human doesn’t mind lookin’ at the distant ice and snow when the sun is shining brightly.

The trees that were not protected were stripped of their leaves.  Protected areas kept their fading colors.

The day warmed and off we went on our hike.  The winds had gone and it was really quite pleasant.

Stormy

Hi Y’all!

The rain poured.  The wind roared.  The leaves ended up piled at the door, in the house, on the floor.

However, first I want to share a couple of pictures with you taken before the storm and the killing frost.

The sourwood like many trees gets spectacular.

Not all the leaves have turned brown and crisp.

Now that lots of leaves are gone you can see neat stuff like this squirrels nest.

And the bees are still working to fill their hives.

Looking into the sky I see trees reaching to the clouds.

Hope y’all had a great weekend!

Y’all come back now!

Before the Storms

Hi Y’all,

These pictures were taken before the rains and winds assaulted the autumn beauty.

You can see the storm moving relentlessly toward us.

Autumn color is so short lived you really have to spend as much time  enjoying it as you can spare.

Gettin' Even Continued!

Hi Y’all!

Now, where was I when I was interrupted yesterday?  Oh, yes, I left the Humans in my dust!

I raced ahead and around a turn in the trail down another trail where I’d found recent bear sign.

And what happened! ?  I surprised the unsuspecting!  Wow did I!

Such a noise as I ever heard!  It was so loud!

I heard my Human yell “Hawkeye!”  She must have heard it too!  I heard the “come” whistle!

Pantin’ I wheeled and headed back to the Humans!

My Human was so happy, actually relieved, when I returned in one piece.

Oh, you want to know what made the noise?  I jumped a flock of turkey.  My Human said it sounded like a fight.  I think she thought a bear coyote or wild boar had gotten me.

I GOT EVEN!

Y’all come back now!

Gettin' Even!

Hi Y’all!

The Humans were right back in the swing of things when morning dawned and off we went!

I had so much pent up energy from those three days of sleepin’ and dreamin’…you can’t imagine unless you’re a little kid or a young active dog!

I zoomed through the fields and I zoomed down through the woods…

Then I zoomed down the main trail and around the bend leaving my Humans behind.

Then, as I started down the trail where the bear had been foraging for bugs in the downed trees, I ran up on the unsuspecting!

Y’all come back now!

Found the Bear

Hi Y’all,

I’ve been showin’ the Humans all sorts of bear sign on our hikes.  However, I want to show you a different Bear.

Y’all know some dogs just don’t want to and won’t talk about how they ended up homeless.  Bear is another retriever who won’t share anything about his background with us.  However, he still needs a home. You can contact Bear at Habersham County Animal Shelter, Clarkesville, GA

The telephone number is 706-754-3533.  You can also email him at        Jsmith@habershamga.com

Click on any picture or Bear’s name to go to his Petfinder Page.
