Latrant, Latration

Hi Y’all!

P1330914

Did I stump you with today’s word(s)?

It is Mischief Monday, as well as being the A to Z Challenge day for the letter “L”.

P1330915

Still stumped?

Remember this photo from last week?

P1010004

To Dog With Love “called out”...

“My what nice teeth you have! Were you yawning or just talking in that photo!! Love your birthday toy. Looks like fun!
Diane and Rocco”

and I answered…

“You’d better believe that was talkin’!”

P1230742

Okay, I’ll tell y’all what the word(s) mean…”Latrant” means barking.  “Latration” means the act of barking.

P1190913

Barking is my Humans number one pet peeve about me.  Since it was mischief Monday it only seemed fitting to discuss it here.

P1340169

I don’t bark unless I’m excited or someone comes to the door.

What really gets my Humans is when I quietly wake one of them or ask them for something, then, after they are up and moving…I just can’t help it!…I start barkin’ and can’t shut up!

  P1340170

I know “shhh”, “quiet” and, when very exasperated the Humans say “shut up!”.  Yes, I do stop barking on command, but if it is something really, really exciting, I can’t help startin’ to bark again!

P1340338

So now y’all know the truth about me! and you know what “latrant” and “latration” mean.

Y’all have a wonderful week!

There is nothing more beautiful than this time of year when the wisteria, dogwoods, azaleas and roses all bloom at the same time.

The last couple of weeks the Humans have been enjoying local strawberries too.

Hope y’all enjoyed the venture into my world.

Y’all come back now!

  1. Nothing blooming here this week, it is cold again with some chances for snow. We don't bark much, but we sure can howl and it can make Mom absolutely mad! We love to do it when she can't come and stop us...like right when she goes in the bathroom ;) have a good Monday with your big, scary words!

  2. Latration how cool is that. It certainly sound a lot more sophisticated than a bark LOL. Have a great day.

  3. I like the words, it sounds much better than to be a "barker" or "very verbal". Have a super monday!

  4. I didn't know that! I don't bark but I howl when my peeps are out. They've never heard me, but the neighbours sure have!

  5. Wow Hawk. We barely have green grass up here. So far I haven't seen any trees with leaves, and my Rhododendrons haven't bloomed yet. Never mind fresh/local fruit!!

  6. Oh Hawk, we must be brothers in barking crime. I sometimes cannot help myself and must bark and bark and BARK! Ma and Daddy get sick of it after a few minutes but if there is something good to bark at, there's no stopping me. BOL Spring is bringing such beautiful flowers and colors into your world. Lucky you!

  7. Thanks for the new word Hawk. Luckily, neither Jack or Maggie do much latration. Beautiful photos though - spring time in your area sure is pretty isn't it.

  8. Nothing like a bit of latration we say. Probably our peep's number one peeve too. Have a marvellous Monday Hawk.
    Best wishes Molly

  9. Now, I would have pegged you as the strong, silent type, Hawk! Thanks for teaching us the new word...a lot of latration goes on around here, with 3 dogs who constantly think they hear things! One starts and the others join in. They are pretty good about quieting down when we tell them to though.

  10. Well, I learned something new today! There's also latration going on around here when someone comes to the door, or if there's a load noise outside. Otherwise, Rita is pretty calm. She makes these funny whimpering sounds when she gets REALLY excited about something.

Used to love it when the dogwoods and azaleas would bloom when we lived in Philly. So pretty!

  13. Thanks for the new vocabulary word! My boys enjoy voicing their concerns about people, lizards, or anything that deserves their attention. I love your flowers. You must live in the area of the country that I am in, because I have been wanting some pics of wisteria. It is so beautiful but draws in bumble bees so I won't plant any.

  14. Chessies can be very vocal, can't they? Thunder is mostly quiet and rarely barks. Storm is a watch dog and barks to alert or protect. Freighter is just plain vocal. He roos and talks and grumbles. He also barks if Storm does, even though sometimes he has no idea why he is barking. :)

  15. Hey Hawk

Thanks for educating me! I bet you have quite a loud bark!

I get told off when I bark back to Cosmo who lives next door, I have to do my quiet bark, it sounds a lot like panting and they seem ok with that, not sure Cosmo can even hear it though?!

    I hope you're having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy :)
